I spotted this El Donkey breakfast burritos cart, like a mirage, delicately gleaming down the hall from me in an otherwise desolate wasteland. I’m being dramatic, I love Chelsea Market but I was starving and it was early and many things weren’t open yet. I hadn’t been inside the market in a year or two, so El Donkey’s breakfast burrito cart was a new sight for me. I was so ravenously hungry, and also a little hungover.
Four dollars gets you a breakfast burrito of your choosing: chorizo and egg, machaca (beef) and egg, or “California,” which I assume must be some sort of avocado-centric vegetarian option, since they are too small to contain a Kardashian sister rolled up inside. The salsa that comes with it is really good too.
If you’re wondering why there are so many amazing Mexican options in and around Chelsea Market, it’s because they’re all Los Tacos no. 1 projects! From the actual Los Tacos stall inside the market, to this burrito cart, and even including the lovely Los Mariscos just outside the market. Los Tacos has heard my
support dreams of taco trucks on every corner, and they are slowly making this happen, starting here in Chelsea.
